Maybe you notice that recovery takes a little longer. Staying focused requires more effort. Or perhaps you simply want to be more proactive about supporting your health as you get older.
Aging affects the body in many ways, including changes that happen at the cellular level. One molecule receiving increasing attention in the world of wellness, functional medicine, and healthy aging is NAD+, short for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide.
NAD+ is naturally present in every cell in your body. It plays an important role in cellular energy production, mitochondrial function, DNA repair, cellular signaling, and other processes that help your cells function normally.
Because NAD+ levels naturally decline with age, researchers are continuing to explore how supporting NAD+ availability may influence cellular health and healthy aging.
So, what exactly is NAD+? And why are more people asking about NAD+ therapy?
NAD+ is a coenzyme that your cells need to perform many essential functions.
One simple way to think about NAD+ is as part of the machinery your cells use to convert the nutrients you consume into usable energy.
NAD+ is involved in several important cellular processes, including:
Cellular energy production
Mitochondrial function
DNA repair and cellular maintenance
Brain and neurological cellular function
Cellular responses to stress
Processes associated with healthy aging
Your mitochondria—the structures within your cells responsible for producing much of the energy your body uses—depend on a complex network of nutrients, enzymes, and coenzymes to function.
As NAD+ availability changes with age, researchers are studying what those changes may mean for energy production, cellular function, and overall wellness.

Most physicians wait for disease to appear. Dr. Warren Lafferty has spent his career working to prevent it.
For more than 30 years, Dr. Warren S. Lafferty has believed there is a better way to practice medicine.
After years of working in Emergency Medicine, he witnessed the consequences of chronic disease every day—heart attacks that could have been prevented, diabetes that had progressed too far, and patients who were often given medications without addressing the underlying cause of their illness. Those experiences shaped his philosophy and inspired a lifelong mission: help people stay healthy instead of simply treating them after they become sick.
That vision became reality in 2008 when he founded Lafferty Family Care.
Today, Dr. Lafferty is recognized throughout Northwest Arkansas for combining traditional family medicine with advanced preventive, functional, and longevity-focused healthcare. His goal is simple: identify health risks early, address the root causes of disease, and help patients enjoy longer, healthier, more active lives.
Long before hormone optimization became widely recognized, Dr. Lafferty became the first physician in Arkansas to offer Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT). His forward-thinking approach has continued throughout his career as he has embraced evidence-based innovations in preventive medicine, metabolic health, cardiovascular risk reduction, weight management, nutrition, and personalized wellness.
Dr. Lafferty is specially trained in the Bale/Doneen Method, one of the nation’s most advanced approaches to preventing heart attacks, strokes, and vascular disease before they occur. As a SHAPE Certified Heart Attack Prevention Specialist, he utilizes advanced testing to identify hidden cardiovascular disease years before traditional screening methods often detect it. Rather than waiting for symptoms to develop, he believes in finding problems early, when they are most treatable.
But credentials alone don’t define Dr. Lafferty.
What truly sets him apart is the time he spends listening to his patients. He believes healthcare should be a partnership built on trust, education, and compassion. Every patient deserves to understand their health, explore their options, and participate in decisions about their care.
Instead of offering a one-size-fits-all approach, Dr. Lafferty develops personalized treatment plans designed around each patient’s goals, lifestyle, and long-term well-being.
His patients often describe him as compassionate, knowledgeable, thorough, and genuinely invested in helping them feel their best. Those relationships and the lives they have transformed are what continue to inspire him every day.
Outside the office, Dr. Lafferty is first and foremost a family man. He is a devoted husband, proud father, and loving grandfather. Whether spending time with his wife, children, and grandchild, or serving the community he has called home for decades, family remains at the heart of everything he does.
At Lafferty Family Care, Dr. Lafferty’s mission has never been simply to add years to life—it is to help every patient add life to their years.
Because the future of medicine isn’t just treating disease. It’s preventing it.
