Botox is arguably the grandfather of minimally invasive cosmetic procedures, but this old-timer continues to reign supreme as one of the most effective anti-aging tools available. In fact, more than 100 million vials of Botox have been sold in the United States since its FDA approval in 2002 to temporarily make moderate-to-severe frown lines and crow's feet (and now forehead lines) look better in adults.

At Lafferty Family Care, Dr. Scott Lafferty and our team understand that our patients in Bentonville, Arkansas, value great health, inside and out. To keep your appearance more in line with your youthful spirit on the inside, we offer several cosmetic services, including WarmSculpting™ by SculpSure®, dermal fillers, and Botox.

Here’s everything you need to know about Botox and why it remains the No. 1 surgery-free cosmetic procedure.

The history of Botox and how it works

The main ingredient in Botox is onabotulinumtoxinA, which is a neuromodulator that temporarily paralyzes muscle activity. Originally, this product was used for certain eye issues, such as cross-eyes, but the FDA approved its cosmetic use in 2002. This workhorse treatment also tackles migraines and incontinence to give you an idea of the efficacy of the product.

Getting back to anti-aging, Botox works by quieting the muscles that contract to form those expression lines around your eyes, forehead, and brows. With the muscles calmed, your skin resumes a smoother, more youthful appearance.

While wrinkles are part and parcel of the aging process, the ones that form around your brows and forehead can sometimes create an expression that’s not at all what you’re feeling. For example, that vertical line in between your brows can make you look angry. As well, the lines around your eyes may be adorably referred to as “laugh lines,” but they can also create an aging effect.

Whatever your concerns about your appearance, the odds are Botox can help.

The Botox difference

There are many reasons why Botox ranks at the top of the list when it comes to noninvasive surgical procedures. To start, it’s incredibly effective. After your injections, your lines begin to fade away within a few days, leaving your skin smooth and line-free.

Second, it takes us only minutes to administer your Botox. Our experienced team analyzes your face, listens to your concerns, and then strategically injects the Botox into the right areas to achieve your goals.

Botox can last up to four months, at which time you simply return for another round. This quick-and-easy procedure is one that millions of people have added to their regular regimen. Many of our clients also add dermal fillers to this routine, which do a great job with some of the aging issues on the lower half of your face. Together, Botox and dermal fillers create a powerful one-two punch against aging.
